Justice does kick ass. I saw him last year in smartbar. I have vid psoted somewhere on youtube with them playing rage agaist the machine. I would have gone to the metro show if it didn't sell out. Planning to do to that and simian mobile disco in march.

I didnt take offense to your comment, haha, I was just stressing the fact that 1000 people "liked it" but not half of that showed up, I think DJ's perform better when they have a bigger crowd.

And I agree, Aoki is fun to see, but there are better. The most fun I had live was at Justice though, as cliche as that sounds.

Justice and Erol Alkan at The Metro was insane, but I still try and see as many DJ's I can, Chicago is great for that.

I hear you man. I remember seeing you there. My comment about the hipster following wasn't meant to come of as a bad thing. I am just hopeful that more people start to come out to support other electronic acts, who I think have a lot of quality music to offer. I just mean that if people like Aoki they should definately like some other djs out there beyond justice and the ed banger crew, daft punk, etc. For me acts like Tiefschwarz blow Aoki out of the water musically, so I htink people should cehck them out.

I was a little disappointed with the crowd turn out myself, I knew going in that he wouldn't fill Crobar, but still, I expected more.

As for his set, it was what I expected. I saw him earlier this year at Sonotheque and in LA at HARD NYE, and he delivers an entertaining experience every time.

Also, I think he has the hipster following because of his many brands and endorsements, plus he's got style. I read somewhere "Aoki is a brand, and its been sold quite well."

It really cant be said any better, he knows what hes doing.

...for over a thousand "going" it sure seemed empty. I was a little disappointed. I guess there were a bunch of other good things going on last night. Steve was ok, I like a lot of the songs he played. I was expecting to hear more of the remixes with vocals etc. I felt like he played a lot of normal tech/electro songs that other djs are playing now. That said I don't see why hipster types really turn out for this guy but don't go see other djs? Maybe its the marketing around this guy? Either way, Steve did his best to breath life into the crowd whose energy was lost in the sheer size of the Crobar room -- rocking out, standing on top of the amp/table, trying to crowd surf, chugging vodka from the bottle while posing for pictures. Pretty theatrical from a "rock 'n roll" point of view. I am a fan of the trend toward dance music taking itself less seriously, having fun being rowdy (which I associate with Justice, Soulwax, Ed Banger crew etc.). But some of the theatrics seemed a bit "acted" rather than Steve being overcome by the moment and music and vibe of the crowd and wanting to express it physically. That said I also don't "get" some other LA based things like Mickey Avalon and that whole shtick. But overall enjoyable time, I would like to see Steve again in a more conducive environment perhaps with more of his core audience there to support his game.
