Twin sisters Jessica and Lisa Origliasso decided on their group
name after watching a scene in the 1988 film Heathers, where the
cool, unique chick calls herself a “Veronica” and not a
“Heather”. The explanation seems fitting considering
these 24 year-olds have a sound unlike most artists their age -
expert songcraft, killer harmonies, and sassy confidence provide
the backbone to their electro-pop rock sounds. Since the 2005
release of their debut album, The Secret Life of the Veronicas, the
sisters have taken over the Australian charts, going platinum four
times over and releasing four singles. After the success of the
album, the two have appeared on series television, became the faces
of Choice Calvin Klein and Australian hair product line nu:u,
appeared on a movie soundtrack, and created their own fashion line
for Target.
In 2006 the young pop starlets released Exposed... a DVD/CD
highlighting their Australian tour of the same year. The second
week of its release, the album reigned the charts at #3 and was
accredited Double Platinum. 2007’s Hook Me Up paved way for
The Veronicas to embark on a major Australian tour, which
ultimately led to more gilded singles and even more US exposure. In
February, they became the first Australian band to have over one
million digital downloads in the United States, and have spent the
last several months touring the United States and appearing on
shows including the MTV New Years Eve party and 90210. They will
travel to Asia next, so catch these girls while they are still in
the U.S. this summer! They appear at Metro on Saturday July 11. The
show is open to all ages and tickets are $15.
