I can't begin to express to you how exciting of a show that this is
going to be..I can guarantee you that the entire night is going to
be unpredictable and a show that people will be talking about for a
long time. First off you have Babyland performing their catalog of
almost 20 years worth of songs, Caustic and their madness and
finally an relatively unknown local band that is sure to grab the
attention of those people who enjoy bands such as Godflesh, Scorn
and Jesu! Now THAT'S a Threesome!
BABYLAND:
Babyland is a performance-based "independent electronic junk punk"
band from Los Angeles, California, featuring Dan Gatto performing
vocals and electronics and Michael Smith on percussion.
Formed in 1989, they are advocates of the DIY punk ethic and part
of the musical underground culture. They are well regarded in
Industrial music, punk rock, indie rock and electronic music
communities. Known for their live performances, Babyland have
shared the stage with bands such as The Offspring, Legendary Pink
Dots, Dystopia, Foetus, Add N to (X), Nitzer Ebb and Psychic TV.
Most of their live performances occur in underground locations that
have included places like LA's Jabberjaw, Kontrol Factory, The
Smell and 924 Gilman in Berkeley.
Recordings prior to 1996 were released on the Los Angeles Punk rock
label Flipside, and the band participated in several of this
organization's Mojave Desert events. Subsequent material has been
released by the band's own label, Mattress. The fifth full length
(The Finger) and a compilation of earlier songs (Decade One) was
released in Europe by Dependent Records. Most recently, a deal with
Metropolis Records has resulted in the commercial release of the
sixth album (Cavecraft).
BABYLAND embodies the integration of electronic music with the
direct approach of hardcore and the intensity of junk noise.
Compositions are conceptually based on the extreme emotional
elements of humankind as reflected in our continual evolution and
search for meaning within our own existence.
Throughout the years, elements of synth pop, hardcore punk rock,
new wave, techno, drum & bass and noise have all fallen prey to
our continual experimentation. We utilize machinery twisted through
misuse and human error to aggressively address our audience with
empathy and concern; The electronic elements and primitive rhythmic
base of the music provides an intense clarity and opposition to the
resulting confusion and noise. The stronghold of our existence has
always been intense live performances which confront audiences with
an honest celebration of extreme energy, harsh sonic and visual
elements, and experimental destruction. In other words, we take
ourselves way too seriously.
CAUSTIC:
Caustic is like a gnat that won't stop buzzing in your ear,
especially if that gnat is a big loud bald dude with a drinking
problem blasting relentless distorted dance beats into your skull.
Started in 2002 by Madison, WI's Matt Fanale, Caustic has built a
surprisingly impressive grassroots fanbase with his combination of
unpredictable, anarchic live shows (accompanied by The Gothsicles
on live duties) and DIY fuck-all attitude.
Caustic has put out a prolific amount of music in the last few
years and has performed coast to coast in the U.S., as well as in
the sold-out Infest Festival in the U.K. Caustic has been on bills
with everyone from Apoptygma Berzerk to Combichrist, from Grendel
to some other band I'm name-dropping to try and impress you. Are
you still even reading? Seriously? Huh. Well, y'know, thanks for
that. Um, don't do drugs and stay in school...or something. And
don't burn bums.
(most importantly don't forget that chicago has been the
site of some of Caustic's more infamous shows including "The
Douche" show and the original "Accaustic" show that inspired the
limited 3" release in addition to his recent "wedding" show)
DRUG HONKEY:
Drug Honkey was created by B.H. Honkey & Honkey Head with the
vision of infusing elements of pure heaviness together with
feelings of ambience and atmosphere, and has opened the door on a
fresh style of "Death Dub" to many people who have not been exposed
to such a sound... Doom, sludge, and all things fucked up certainly
play a major part in this band, but an electronic, tripped out feel
also encompasses their dark sound which evolves to a different
plane with each passing song...Sit back, listen and let yourself
fall into Drug Honkey's dark, dirty, and atmospheric mesh of sound.
"This Illinois-based group plumbs the void of grimy post-dub
deathrock as well or better than anyone. This second release is a
triumphant descent into decay and depravity, with booming rhythms,
feedback-swollen guitars, dub basslines, and bowels-of-hell vox..
Fans of stuff like TECHNO-ANIMAL, early SCORN, early PUBLIC IMAGE,
GODFLESH, classic BUTTHOLE SURFERS, or GOD will find sustenance in
this multi-sensory attack. 'Hail Satan' is a violently
confrontational and antisocial release packed with dense clots of
noise, shuffling beats, and potent swells of dub. A highly
provocative and enjoyable release that comes quite recommended to
those who require some 'extra' intensity in their music."
