Editors' Take

Jeff Garlin's film is quirky, funny and very Chicago -- see if you recognize all the places where it was shot. Get there early for the cocktail reception and head to Cousin's for post-show drinks.

First Tuesdays with the Midwest Independent Film Festival:

I WANT SOMEONE TO EAT CHEESE WITH Screens!

CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM’S Jeff Garlin wrote, directed and stars in this poignant and humorous look at a man in search of a soul mate. James (Garlin) is a frustrated and underappreciated Chicago actor who lives with his mother and has only really wanted three things in life: someone to love him, a great part, and to lose weight. Unfortunately, he is 0 for 3. His girlfriend dumps him, he loses the title role in a remake of Paddy Chayefsky’s Marty to teen idol Aaron Carter, and he sneaks out of an Overeaters Anonymous meeting only to wind up at an ice cream parlor. There, he meets Beth ( Sarah Silverman) who quickly wins his heart but will this cause James more problems than it solves? Or has he finally found someone to eat cheese with? Appearances by Bonnie Hunt, Amy Sedaris, Dan Castellaneta, Wallace Langham, Roger Bart, Paul Mazursky, David Pasquesi, and Joey Slotnick

Screening Information:
The Tuesday, November 6th screening begins with a Pre-Show Cocktail Reception at the Landmark Century Centre Cinema (2828 North Clark) at 6 p.m. The reception is presented by Diageo, the world's leading premium drinks company; sponsoring brands include GUINNESS, Crown Royal and Captain Morgan.  I WANT SOMEONE TO EAT CHEESE WITH screens promptly at 7:30 p.m.  Projection services are provided by sponsors Resolution Digital Studios, Mimi Productions, Fletcher and Zacuto.  A post-screening reception will be held immediately following the film at Cousin's (2833 North Broadway). is hilarious. She's edgy. She's smart. She holds her own in the male-dominated comedic arena. If you took away her crude humor and uncomfortably/deliberately awkward style, she'd be just another B-movie actress.

I have the best sense of humor ever,
    Robyn

P.S. "She's kinda hot" isn't how you judge a comedian.

It's quite a bit better than you think. And Sarah Silverman is surprisingly good in this flick. The crude, half-baked stand-up routine is nowhere to be seen and she actually just steps up and delivers a solid female lead performance.

See you guys Tuesday at the Landmark!

This movie looks terrible...funny fat guy with low self esteem (but not really) has a string of bad luck and finally meets the girl of his dreams who he'll ultimately choose but not until he pines neurotic about it for a third of the flick.

Oh, but get this: it takes places in Chicago! Can you spot all the cool landmarks???

    Yawn.

(And for the record, Silverman is to movies what Tom Green was to TV.)

Awesome movie. Go see it! Rent 1955's "Marty" to watch right afterwards.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is a very underrated show, and Sarah Silverman is hot(ish) and sexy(kinda) when she wants to be, so it should be a cool flick.
  9. Thanks!
